At Peace Church we believe we are called to live out our faith each day. We believe God loves each of us just as we are. But God loves each of us too much to leave us as we are. Jesus Christ lived this out in every way as he served the outcasts and lowest of people in society. He met people right where they were, and then gave them hope as He helped them grow to know and love God more. And then He gave the ultimate sacrifice of dying on the cross so that every human who has or ever will live has the opportunity to be put right with God. We believe that sin is real and powerful in our world, dividing us from each other and from God. But through the gift of His life Jesus overcame the power of sin and broke down the walls dividing us.
At Peace Church we are more interested in giving a cup of cold water to a thirsty person than we are in drinking it ourselves. We are more interested in rubbing shoulders with people who know they have made lots of mistakes than people who pretend they haven't made any at all. We are more interested in serving in our community than being served.
As for our theology, we basically all believe what the Apostles' Creed teaches about God:
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord. Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
*Catholic means universal
As a church in the Reformed Tradition we also believe and emphasize the Ten Essential Tenets of the Reformed Faith (as outlined in our Polity & Discipline of the ECO: A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians):
1. God's word in scripture (Old and New Testament) has authority over our lives
2. Belief in the Triune God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
3. Incarnation of Jesus Christ
4. We are saved by grace through faith
5. God chooses people for salvation and for service
6. Christians are part of God's covenant family that began with Abraham in Genesis 12
7. Christians are called to faithful stewardship of all God has given us
8. We are called to live in obedience to the Word of God
Please check out our Mission and Core Values page to learn more about what we believe about the church and how we are called to live.
So join us as we seek to get on board with what God is doing in our community and throughout the world! God is at work! We've just got to watch as He shows up and shows off! God bless you!
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is a gift from God, not the result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are what God has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life." - Ephesians 2:8-10
